What is a gilet?

A vest is usually a sleeveless cardigan. It belongs to a three-piece suit in combination with a blazer and pants. The waistcoat dates back to the 17th century and was first worn by King Charles II of England. After that, the waistcoat came to the English streets and eventually to Eastern European countries and Islamic countries. An important feature of a vest is that it is always buttoned, this can be either a single row or a double row of buttons. Make sure you wear the bottom button of the waistcoat open so that the waistcoat does not become too tight when you sit down. A vest usually also has a small pocket that was used to hold the watch when people wore pocket watches.

A vest at events

There are special rules for vests at black and white tie events. You wear a low-cut white gilet with an open back at white-tie events. At black tie events, you always wear a black vest. Always match the color of your vest to the color of the bow tie. The difference between a vest and a spencer is that you can think of a gilet as a sleeveless vest, while you can think of a spencer as a sleeveless sweater.
