What is twill?

Twill (in Dutch twill weave) is a weaving technique that causes diagonal ribbing in the fabric. These not only give it a timeless look, but make it a robust yet supple fabric. What kind of fabric is twill?

Advantages and disadvantages of twill

The strength of twill ensures that clothing retains its shape even after repeated wear and washing. Another advantage is the softness and suppleness of the fabric. Despite the density of the fabric, twill often feels comfortable on the skin. Moreover, it has excellent wrinkle recovery properties, making it ideal for formal menswear such as shirts. On the other hand, twill can feel heavier and more stuffy. This makes it less obvious to wear during the summer or in hot climates. It's wise to follow the label's instructions anyway to maintain quality.
