What does jersey mean?
Jersey, also known as jersey, is not a fabric but a knitting technique. This technique is named after the British island of Jersey where the famous navy blue jersey sweaters were knitted by hand via a right-to-left weave (in a V pattern). Today this is a machine process, but the fabric still resembles fine knitting. Jersey can be made from different materials such as cotton, linen and wool.
Types of jersey
.There are two techniques: single jersey and double jersey. As the name suggests, the double jersey (interlock) uses the same knitting technique twice via a right-to-right binding. This gives a warmer and thicker fabric. The single jersey, however, is considered true jersey.
Properties of jersey
.The fabric is a fine and elastic material that makes jersey garments very comfortable. Because only ééone thread is used, jersey fabric does not wrinkle. So it is ideal for diverse types of sweaters. In addition, it is airy and opaque. Besides clothing, cotton jersey fabric is also used to make mattress fitted sheets. Due to the elasticity of this fabric, you can easily put it around the mattress.
